Using GC×GC–TOF MS to compare VOC profiles of food and beverages

The poster titled “Battle of the brands: Using GC×GC–TOF MS to compare VOC profiles of food
and beverages” was presented by SepSolve Analytical at the 19th International GC×GC Symposium, which was held on 29
May–2 June 2022 as a virtual event.
High-capacity sorptive extraction and
trap-based focusing enhance sensitivity
Imitation food and beverage products mimic the taste
of popular branded products. However, flavour profiles are complex and consist
of a broad range of chemical classes. It is important to be able to identify
these volatiles during product development and in quality and authenticity
studies.
Traditional sample preparation methods, such as
headspace and SPME, are widely used, but often limited in terms of sensitivity.
This poster demonstrates the use of high-capacity
sorptive extraction with novel trap-based focusing to provide enhanced
sensitivity and improved chromatographic performance. This improved
performance, coupled with enhanced separation by GC×GC and highly-sensitive
detection by time-of-flight mass spectrometry (TOF MS), gains greater insight
into sample composition.
