SepSolve Analytical acquires HyperChrom assets and IP
5 November 2024
SepSolve Analytical Ltd has acquired
the assets and IP of HyperChrom, a gas chromatography (GC) manufacturer in Bonn
(Germany).
The HyperChrom GC
was developed by company co-founder Professor Peter Boeker – a chemical
engineer and PhD in physical chemistry, with a background in gas sensing and
odour measurement technologies. Boeker notably developed the Flow-Field Thermal
Gradient Gas Chromatography (FF-TG-GC)
technology in 2013 and developed it with the HyperChrom team to a certified
measurement system.
The resulting
HyperChrom FF-TG-GC is
an innovative, energy-efficient device that speeds up traditional gas
chromatography (GC) methods without losing any data quality. It can quickly
analyse samples almost in real-time with high precision and accuracy. It
achieves this by gradually reducing the temperature along the column while
heating it rapidly, which improves the separation of compounds and increases
peak clarity. This allows labs to achieve the same quality results as with
standard GC methods, but in a fraction of the time, or to conduct continuous
chemical measurements that were previously impractical with regular GC.
Bob Green,
SepSolve’s Business Development Manager, commented: “We were impressed by the
FF-TG-GC
invention of Prof Boeker and have closely monitored its development. It’s
rightfully acknowledged as one of the biggest advancements in GC technology in
decades, and its seen early adoption by demanding clients across wide ranging
applications.
“We’re very excited
to be able to commercialise the product – it’s going to revolutionise the speed
at which our clients can get analyses done. It’s ideal for applications where
fast turnaround and accurate results are equally important, such as rapid identification
of illegal drugs, fast screening for trace explosives, and quality control of
products like foods, perfume and oils.”
Nigel Fry, CEO of
Schauenburg Analytics Ltd, the parent company of SepSolve Analytical, added: “This
acquisition fits perfectly within the SepSolve product portfolio. It
complements the company’s existing products and will enable us to give our
customers the ability to undertake GC analyses at an unprecedented speed.”
