SepSolve Analytical launches new TPH product package

SepSolve Analytical Ltd (Peterborough, UK) has released a new package of equipment and an optimised analytical method for analysing total petrochemical hydrocarbons (TPH) in environmental matrices.

Petroleum contamination is of significant concern to both the environment and human health, and a number of risk-based approaches have been developed to evaluate TPH. However, these typically rely on time-consuming, labour-intensive sample fractionation to separate aliphatics and aromatics, followed by two separate GC–FID analyses per sample. Sample fractionation also incurs high costs due to consumable requirements (such as SPE cartridges and solvents), and uses harmful solvents.

The SepSolve TPH product package dispenses with these difficulties by using the enhanced separation capacity of comprehensive two-dimensional chromatography (GCxGC), to separate aliphatics and aromatics in a single analysis without off-line sample fractionation. Specifically, it allows analysts to:
