Detailed chemical characterisation of pyrolysis oils from mixed plastic waste using GCxGC–TOF MS

The poster titled “Detailed chemical characterisation of pyrolysis oils from mixed plastic waste using GCxGC–TOF MS” was presented by SepSolve Analytical at the 18th International Symposium on Hyphenated Techniques in Chromatography, Belgium, 28-31 May 2024.

Pyrolysis oils produced from solid waste plastic are considered a promising alternative to fossil fuels. However, their complex composition may vary depending on the plastic feedstock used or the pyrolysis process, and the presence of trace impurities can affect the quality of the oil and its applicability. In this poster, we demonstrate the use of GCxGC–TOF MS using the INSIGHT-Thermal modulator and BenchTOF2 mass spectrometer for detailed non-target characterisation of pyrolysis oils, to identify possible contaminants and help to refine process design.
