The poster titled “Group-type
quantitation of hydrocarbons in jet fuel using GCxGC–FID (ASTM Method
D8396)” was presented by SepSolve Analytical at Gulf Coast Conference,
Galveston, 10-11 October 2023.
Accurate hydrocarbon composition of finished fuels,
such as aviation fuel, is required to ensure quality control and to determine
the effects of processes in fuel production. This has become even more
important with the development of novel renewable fuels, such as sustainable
aviation fuels (SAFs).
Unfortunately, the complexity of such fuels makes this
a challenging prospect for conventional 1D GC, leading to inaccurate or
incomplete characterisation. ASTM Method D8396 addresses this issue by
employing comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography with flame ionisation
detection (GCxGC–FID) for enhanced separation and precise quantitation.
This poster illustrates
how GCxGC–FID using
the INSIGHT-Flow modulator and automated
group-type data processing in ChromSpace software can provide fast and accurate
quantitative information on hydrocarbon composition.
